Pontiacaztekgirl  over on the YAHOO group complained of same thing.  Someone cleaned the IAC(?)  and problem went away for a bit (did come back though). I don't believe she has a permanent fix yet

OK I got an update that you can pass along to the yahoo groups and anyone else having this problem!!!!  Straight from the paperwork:

                      Body Electrical
Check and advise on vehicle idles high intermitt
FOUND CODES P0122 AND P1122 LOW VOLTAGE, CLEARED CODES, ROAD
TESTED,  REPLACED THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR, ROAD TESTED AGAIN
VEHICLE OPERATING AT FACTORY SPECS AT THE TIME

So there you go I think they got it but only time will trully tell.  I have offically renamed my Aztek to B.O.B. (beast of burden) :cooldude:

Thank you CoMsPyDeR! You have made me so happy! Cheesy

This is PontiacAztekGirl from the yahoo group.

No, I didn't get a permanant fix. This is a safety issue that really bothers me. We are a one car family, so it's putting all of our lives at risk. I closely watch my RPM and speed when I'm driving, and if it starts acting up, I pull over and restart my car, which usually works. I will have my friend look at the previous post to see if he can fix it. (He used to work in a dealership- and he's the only person I trust, esp now since all of my money is tied up in buying a house.)

I have also filed a complaint with NHSTA http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems...laintsearch.cfm. If you do a complaint search (not a defect search) you will find a 2002 Aztek (with a 'c'), that had a similar problem. My complaint is not in there yet. Not sure if it will ever get addressed, but maybe there will be a recall or something.

On the other hand, I THINK replacing my IAC (idle air control) valve did increase my gas mileage. I wonder if it's been idling a bit high for quite a while. My gas mileage went from 19-20 (city & highway) to 24 (city and highway). Also I bought a cheap IAC from AutoZone for $30. I wanted to confirm the problem before I bought the $108 GM one. The main difference in the parts is that the GM one was made in Mexico and the AutoZone one was made in the USA. (After reading about the 'quality' Aztek compressors from Mexico, this is a bit of a relief). Also the AutoZone IAC spring has fewer windings on it.

If you like a good laugh read some of the complaints. Some people drive cars into trees and then complain because the car couldn't withstand the crash.

did you try taking it and getting the idle sensor checked for some reson it shorts and makes the computer believe that the driver is flooring it and once they c this it takes no time to fix and I believe it is a computer issue which is warantied up to 80 k or so anyway i look at it the dealer should replace it for free. :spank:

Is this an emmissions systems part with an extended warranty?

I hate dealers (and I work for an OEM!). I really don't want to take it in because I'm trying to buy a house, so money is tight right now. I don't have any 'spare' money to pay a dealer for them to look at it and find nothing wrong, sice this is an intermit issue for me.

I have replaced the IAC and now the TPS. It hasn't done it again, yet. But when the old TPS was taken out, it was bad. I bought one from AutoZone for $32, and it was the same one that was in the Tek to begin with (should I be glad that I only paid $32, or concerned that this one may fail too?). Gas mileage has been better, prob. because I'm not idling so high. I drove over 200 miles in one day a few days ago, and it didn't act up once. But now my condensor is leaking........

Ooh... Auto Zone... BAD!!!

I will buy lotsa stuff from AZ, but try to stay away from electrical parts such as starters, alternators, and sensors. They tend to have a REALLY short lifespan!

I think these parts are manufactured in third world countries where they don't have cars and the only tools they have are sticks and rocks!

Oh yes, Auto Zone. The only things I buy from there are items that I dont mind replacing every month or so( air fresheners ). I had a cougar that would puke up the water pump every time I got one from there. Four times was enough for me. My advice-- Keep the reciept handy!

I don't buy from Auto Zone just because the people working there have been jerks in my experience.  Where do you buy your parts?

depending on what I need I usually go to NAPA or whitneys.
The people in my AutoZone  are pretty nice though. They dont treat me  like I'm a stupid school girl like other parts departments have in the past.

AutoZone carries the same TPS that the Aztek came with. Is that good or bad?

AutoZone's IAC was made in the USA, while the Tek comes with one from Mexico.

Apparanlty, the Tek comes with cheap third-world parts!

I only bought from AutoZone because I knew I might be buying junk, but I wasn't about to spend three times as much at the dealer when I wasn't sure what the problem was. If my AutoZone IAC pukes, I will put the other one back in.

I did get some respect at AutoZone though. NAPA has good service too. Seems to me that whenever I don't go to a dealer, I get good service.

I have noticed my car is JUMPY huh when it is idleing.  I am going to check the RPMs the next time I notice it.  Does this happen when your cars are ideling at 2000 RPM's?

Goddess, Your idle should not be 2000rpms.  Even with the AC on.

That would explain your jumpiness.
