Aftermarket exhaust?
«
on:
July 09, 2007, 11:59:43 am »
I was considering swapping out the stock exhaust muffler for a flowmaster super 40 delta flow. I was wondering how does the 3.4 sound with more flow on the exhaust side? I know the 3.4's that came in the 93-95 F-Body's sounded horrible with anything but factory exhaust.

There are a few members here that have custom Dual exhausts I personally seen at least three of them and they sound great. Once mine is in need of replacement, I will be doing the same.

when its not pouring down rain here, I'll go outside and make a soundfile of my Flowmaster Super 40 so you can hear what they sound like.

Ungoliant, when you did your exhaust did you keep the factory resonator? I'd like to replace mine but dump the exhaust on the passenger side with a Magnaflow muffler(what I used on the Bonneville) and a square tip or dual oval tip. Does MagikMike have this set up?

I built my own exhaust from the muffler back. I used a Dyna Flow muffler, retained the factory "hump" that goes over the rear axle (it would have been difficult to replicate) removed the resonator and used a single inlet with a dual outlet chrome tip. The outlet location is the same as stock but the wider tip looks much better there. As for the sound, Tek Sgt now has a really nice low throaty rumble.

No, I replaced everything from the muffler back. I have a single Flowmaster S40 and a single pipe coming out where the original one was, only with a 3" diameter now. Someday I will go back and do duals, but couldnt afford it at the time, and now I'm working on other modifications.

So how many of you have the independent rear suspension and dual exhaust? I went and talked about dual exhaust on the vous and they cant see how it can be done. Only way to do it woould to remove the spare tire. jsut no room to route a pipe around the suspension. so if anyones has done it on a Independent Susupension aztek i wanna see
From the pics you can see how there is no routing that can be done most they could do was a corvette tip turn the exhaust sideways and have it cruve around out the back demostrated by the crude sad pic LOL

But I don't know if that is exactly street legal, since the emissions can rise up and enter into the rear windows. Some States have some crazy emission standards- like PA, and NJ. Mike's does look really cool and sounds good as well.
As for my Duals, I have a unnamed brand of Turbo muffler- I think it is a spin off of Magnaflow- single inlet dual 2 1/2 inch outlet that runs back to each of the rear corners.

Ok, first time didnt work. Resavd it as an mpg file. Lets see if this works...at lunch I recorded me revving the engine so you can hear what the flowmaster sounds like on a 3400 SFI engine.

I hope this works. Tek Sgt's DynaFlow might not sound as sexy as Decepti-Tek, but OOOooo do the lady Teks like him.

Also Intrepid, you could get the look of duals by splitting your exhaust just behind the rear bumper and put your tips wherever you want.

Thanks...the sound is beginning to "burn in" on it now...its not as tinny as it was when first installed.
ar4s1 - I like how that Dynaflow sounds...its got an interesting sort of power whine to it.
