OK, dont laugh, but I picked up an 02 AWD cheap.  Its a first car for a 16yo daughter....  I scanned it b4 buying, and it came up with 0040, rear wheel sensor.

I've installed both rear ABS/Hub assys, but still have code.  I've tested the wiring with a meter from the connector that is up on the body, about 2-3 feet from the hub.  Wiggling everywhere doesn't reveal any continuity issues.  Apparently, the problem is a little intermittent, as the lights went out for about 15 miles yesterday.  After restarting, they came right back on.

I should also mention it has an SVS message and a park lamp out message.  No codes there...  I should also mention the fuel gauge appears to stay towards full, but havent ran it down past the poing where 5.5 gallons filled it.

I'm leaning toward the 305 connector discussed on here.  Thoughts?

Thanks

Did the 305ectomy last nite.  Found corrosion, mostly in the wires that reside INSIDE the cabin.  Some had to be cut more than an inch to find clean wire.  ABS and AWD disable still on.  New code on the test drive though.....Brake pedal height or something.....It was too late to mess with it.  Anyone vote for brake control module/pump?  Everythiing seems to be brake related, except the AWD disable, which is tied in.

305ectomy made no difference.  New ABS module made no difference.  Now I have "brake pedal position" code, too.   I took the tek for a drive with the scan tool hooked up and it came up with lots of info, the most interesting was a "chassis ground #2" problem.   Anyone know where this ground point is?   I'm in the process of getting service manual.  I think I'm about ready to let Tech2 and dealer have a crack at it.

This is what I so far for grounds:

G100 Right side of engine compartment, on top of front
end upper crossmember.
G101 Left side of engine compartment, right of left
headlamp, on front upper crossmember.
G111 Engine compartment, mounted on bellhousing left
of starter.
G117 Engine compartment, mounted on bell housing, left
of starter.
G200 Right side of dash, on underside of cross-car beam.

I'll keep looking for more info for you.

Thanks!  I dropped it at the dealer last night for a Tech2 session.  I'm hoping its a BCM.  They're 169 with free shipping right now.  The foglights decided to work last night.  Too many issues that dont make sense leads me to point toward the BCM....

So far I've discovered several things:

1.  If the Innova code scanner says C0040, trust the GM OBDII codes online, NOT the scantool.  I called Innova to explain that it was scanning C0040, they confirmed that is a "Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Subfault".  Wrong.  He then went to the web and confirmed that Innova's data, and the 3150 tool, was innaccurate.  I said thanks alot, and he couldn't confirm when an online update for the tool would be available.

2.  GM dealer took the $100 diagnostic fee and high dollar scan tool and didn't help a bit.  Said the 3ft harness at the RR may have a bad connector, but they couldn't get one through GM anyway.  I told him it had been tested at 4.6 Volts at the hub end, and no wiggling of wire and connectors would cause a change.   The brain surgeon also said I was missing a grommet around the 305 connector.   I told him there was no 305 connector.  It has been deleted, corrosion eliminated, soldered, shrink wrapped, wrapped, and black silicone was used to seal the pass thru plate.  I'm sure they were shaking their heads, but if GM doesn't have the connectors to sell, what is one to do?

3.  Last night I pulled the PCM connectors off the PCM.  Clean as a whistle inside, but moisture/corrosion on the outside of the case made me pull the connectors off to check.  Ordered $79 programmed PCM off ebay.  Dont think I'll be using it, but it was cheap and will hang around for a spare.  This was a frustration issue, not an educated purchase.

4.  Replaced the RF hub with Timken last night.  Took all of 25 mins from start to finish.  The wiring was absolutely OK, and the hub tested 1K ohms with no short, but it insisted on throwing the code.  I've not had it on the highway, but it hasn't thrown a code yet.  BTW, this hub looked identical to the Timken, but had a different number on it.  Who knows..

5.  Pulled RWD actuator out to troubleshoot it tonight, one terminal is severley corroded down to where it disappears into the valve housing.  Signs of moisture inside the connector on the side of that terminal.  $219 at the dealer tomorrow.  In stock.

6.  Fog lights mysteriously worked for 3 minutes tonite, then wouldnt.  Restarted 10 mins later, and they work fine.  On, off, lowbeam on, highbeam off.  We'll see tomorrow nite....

Problems being eliminated, slowly.  Intermittent RR ABS connectors on 2ft harness were replaced last nite.  No C0050 code since.  Still C0040 code, but new connector at wheel end of harness didn't help.  GM DVD should be here today for schematic to troubleshoot.  Ballenger Motorsports had the connectors for $8.00.  Fog lights still intermittent.
