Hello,

I haven't posted in awhile, so hello everyone!  I hope someone can tell me what this is.  My SES light has been coming on for quite awhile but not having any symptoms.  I decided to try and get it diagnosed.  The code came up p0443, Evap Purge Control Circuit.  What is this and what symptoms would I be getting if it needed to be replaced?  Thanks!

I think the most likely thing is fuel cap issue, loose/mis-aligned/ bad seal.

Been there, done that.  I replaced the fuel cap almost a year ago.  There is nothing else that would cause this code to come up?  Would it have anything to do with the fuel pump or anything like that?  Thanks!

Well it could be various things. One thing I forgot (and easy) is retaining strap getting caught in threads when putting fual cap on (if you still have that). Could be a leak somewhere in system (including the known possible fuel tank issue maybe) , could be wiring issue (that under vehicle/behind drivers seat connector comes to mind).  Also I think in some systems (don't kniow about the Tek in this case) overfilling fuel tank can cause problems.

Thanks for the suggestions - I will try a few of them and see if anything helps.  I'm also getting the code p1189 which I've been told is the engine oi/pressure switch circuit.  Is that the same thing as the oil sending unit?  And how important is it that I have this replaced?  Do you know how to reset the computer so these codes don't keep coming up?  The p0443 code could still be stuck in there since before I got the new gas cap for all I know  rolleyes

Could be the sending unit, they do go bad sometimes. The important thing is not whether the the unit works, but the actual oil pressure. I think the only way to clear the codes is with one of those magic tools the mechanics have

Check Connector 305 that passes a bunch of signals through from under the car into the cab, sort of under/behind the driver's seat, just inside the frame rail under the car.  It carries the signals for the EVAP purge solenoids back to the fuel tank, among other things.  If the connections are corroded, this is one of the problems it can cause.

If you can't fix it yourself, redesign it since it was obviously poorly designed to begin with, otherwise you could fix it yourself.  Right?

One way to clear the trouble codes is to disconnect the battery for 5-10 minutes then reconnect for 30 seconds then disconnect for 5-10 minutes.  This should clear the codes and allow you to start troubleshooting fresh.  Or at least this is what I did when my BCM went and it worked for a while!
