Hey guys...quick question...

How many of you have had your tranmission system flushed?

Any suggestion on whether I should have the dealership do it or somewhere else?

The only problem with taking your tek to a juicy lube type place is that they typically don't change the filter. They have a vacuum tube they stick in the tranny dipstic/fill tube and suck the fluid out, then replace it with new fluid...

I would imagine the dealer would do the filter as well.

Hey Moose,

What I have always done, and will do at 50K miles, is ask to keep the used filter. I tell them that I will have it analyzed for particulate matter. I had this done once and may have it done again for the Tusk. They can tell if your bands are going, or if you have any other problems by that technique.

Is there a charge for the analysis?

I changed my tranny myself shortly after I bought my Tek at 22K miles.  It was previously a Rental car so who knows how hard its been driven. I bought the filter kit(filter, o-ring and gasket) at Advance auto parts for like $16. Using the pan drop method, it takes almost 8 qts to fill after draining.

IIRC there are 15 or 20, 10mm bolts that hold the pan on the tranny. You remove the bolts, remove the pan, pull the filter, and remove the o-ring, install the new o-ring, install new filter, clean inside of the pan and magnet, don't use the supplied cork gasket, you can reuse the original hard rubber one, line the gasket up to the holes in the pan and reinstall the bolts, tighten to 30 inch/lbs, and fill with 7.9 qts of tranny fluid and your done! -phew

I replace the tranny fluid with Mobil 1 tranny fluid because I noticed a 5-10 degree avg. tranny temp drop in my Impala after I changed its tranny fluid with M1.
