the 3.4 was the only engine in the Tek
It was?

I looked at GMPartsDirect.com last night for a new drive belt. And it listed a 3.4 and 3.6 belt.... huh

I can relate with the lack of power at cruise speeds. We took our Montana to the mountains of PA last summer to move my stepdaughter out of her dorm and back home to her Dads place. The Monty has the same engine/drivetrain as the Tek and the the tranny was downshifting a lot in the mountains especially when we were loaded. I found if I moved my cruise speed up to 70mph instead of 65 it was able to climb better with less downshifting. Overall I cant complain tho, since the Monty still delivered 23-24mpg for the trip.

I'm hoping the Tek will do as well. It certainly is more comfy in the driver chair than the Monty was so I'm hoping it will be a good road trip machine.

Two different engines can have the same accessories located in the same place.

You are driving an 3700+ pound brick down the road that is powered by an economy value engine. Your vehicle is going to be slow and the really only way to fix that is to install a supercharger that was built for the Grand-Am GT's.

how much cash are we talkin for that one?

2000 to 3000 would be my guess. This is someone else doing the install and the tune.

I found 2 things that are odd, 1  if I set the cruise 80 mph or more I get better gas milage than doing 75 (did it 4 sat's in a row last august going to the races) and seems to get better mpg with the tailgate down. huh   Actually get a good breeze with the gate down too.

I have noticed on my Tek that I get better gas mileage without using cruise control, and using the car in front of me as a guage for speed. 2-4 MPG difference.

There is a governor on the Tek at 95 MPH if I recall. I used to do it aot when I had the 20" rims- felt like the Tek was on rails.

I Love Azteks!!

« Reply #27 on: March 01, 2010, 04:02:44 pm »

The Aztek's governor will kick in at 108mph.  Theres even a video on YouTube believe it or not of a guy pushing the Aztek to the limit on a highway, and it cuts off at 108mph.  I guarentee you it could go much faster though, if it had no governor.  Gotta love that V6! cool

Wonder if it's anybody from here ...

Fastest I have gone in my Aztek is 100mph.

I often have NO problem picking up and passing somebody quickly, but I have been looking into getting a turbo for it recently, not sure how far im going to take that idea.

For the guys talking about the gov, it must be higher in Canada, or my Spedo is off. I have taken my tek to 185~190KPH before it kicked in. (115~118 Mph)
