I have a 2002 Aztek with the towing package. I installed a Hidden Hitch myself, and now need to connect the factory-supplied wiring harness.
Unfortunately, the harness has 5 wires: orange, black, brown, yellow, green. The trailer is a 4 wire flat connector. Colors on it are yellow, brown, green, white.
From other postings, it sounds like I should connect brown-to-brown, green-to-green, and yellow-to-yellow. What do I connect to the connector's white wire? The black? The orange? And what do I do with the wire that is left over?
I looked all over, but no one seems to answer that clearly. Either that, or I'm really missing the point. I don't want to fry anything, so I'm against the trial-and-error method.
I welcome all input. Please help me, as it's driving me nuts.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Alztek.

alztek, First of all we need to know from your four wire trailer wiring harness what functions each of those wires serves. It may not be as simple as matching colors. Once you tell me that, I will be able to tell you what to hook them to. EDIT: This post might help, it was also in the towing section: http://www.aztekfanclub.com/SMF/index.php/topic,1805.0.htmlNewfie Edit: Link corrected, Was referenceing the old forums

Sorry, should have included that.
The trailer uses the following config:
Green - right signal Brown - taillight marker Yellow - left signal White - trailer ground
The flat cable/connector is a Hoppy (Hopkins Manufacturing), #48035. The cable matches this configuration.
Now the fun is matching these four wires/colors to Pontiac's six.
Thanks!

alztek,
Ok, it actually looks pretty easy.
Connect the two yellows (Left turn signals), the two greens (Dark Green on the Aztek - Right turn signals), two browns (Marker and tail lights) and the white from the trailer with the black from the Aztek (Grounds). The Orange from the Aztek is a power feed. I would cap that off. I don't recall a sixth wire, perhaps the Center High-Mounted Stoplamp - smaller white wire on the Aztek? I will have to double check mine and report back.

(there is only 5 wires) He may be looking at my 6-pin diagram at the end of the above link. I used the 6-pin plug so I could hook up the 12 power supply. Thought I might use it one day.

alztek,
One other note. The trailer wiring harness is fused by the RR AUX fuse (20 amp) located in the center console fuse block. There should be a fuse in there, I believe that it also fuses the rear accessory power outlet. Make sure you remove the power prior to making your connections to avoid a short.
Is there a chance that you might ever want to change trailers? If so you might want to upgrade your mating connection to a 5 pin connector. That way you won't have to worry about protecting that unused wire. You would just have one open cavity in the trailer's connector (which you could carefully seal with silicone). That way if you ever purchased or even borrowed another trailer that used a 5 pin connector you might be lucky and just be able to hook it up and go. Just a thought.

I just got a adapter. 6 to 4 pin plug. Quite short wires to it so it doesn't become a problem with a long wires at the receiver. I carry it in my case with the receiver. I got it from a trailer supply store.

Hey all,
I just scoured the internet for an hour and a half to find the color connections posted above about two years ago on the wiring connection for a trailer. Just wanted to say thanks and I'm glad I found this site or I'd still be searching.
