Commercial Cleaner for Car Interior Not Recommended???

I got an Aztek recently, and it's turning out to be a pretty cool car. So naturally I want it to look nice and shiny on the inside. The manual says to use only mild soap and water to clean the top surfaces of the instrument panel because "sprays containing silicones or waves may cause annoying reflections in the windshield" and decrease visibility. Likewise, soap and water for the plastic surfaces only because "commercial cleaners may affect the surface finish." There is a table at the end of the manual that lists GM products, including Armor All Protector. There is a note attached to this item -- not recommended. I'm a little surprised by that the interior can be so finicky. What's been your experience? What cleaners do you use?

I just bought Armor All Multi-Purpose Cleaner and Rain-X Glass Cleaner. Hope I haven't messed up already.

I've used those products with no probs at all. It takes forever to do but I also use Rain-X on the outside of the glass.

Welcome to the AFC - Happy Tekkin'. I use Rain-X washer fluid for the windshield and a product called Invisible Glass on the rest of the exterior glass - creates an excellent coating on the glass, nothing sticks to it

I agree with Dave. I use both products on my Aztek n it litterally looks like the glass isnt there after a couple of layers like 3.
I think the Invisible Glass with the bottle works best. The wipes in my opinion suck, but thats just me. Hope you enjoy the club

 I hate Rain-X 2-in-1 Glass Cleaner. It smeared and reduced visibility significantly at night. Some people say it's the fabric softener in the paper towel, some say it's the wipers, and some say they have the method for getting Rain-X to work. But I hate it. It also doesn't repel rain very well. I was the only one on the road with beads on rain on the window, when everyone else had perfectly clear windows. Stay away from Rain-X 2-in-1 Glass Cleaner!

Apparently Rain-X forms some sort of silicon film over the window, so you can't clean it off easily. I've had to abrade it off with Bon Ami Cleaning Powder and then clean the windshield with lighter fluid and then with Invisible Glass (apply with newspaper, then wipe clean with microfiber cloth). What a pain in the neck!!!

The directions on the Rain-X bottle were misleading. They should have come with some sort of warning and detailed instructions on avoiding problems.

Invisible glass is an excellent choice.  Streak free and it will take stuff off of the windshield that I never thought would come off.  As far as cleaning the dash, I would highly recommend Meguiars interior detail spray.  It does a very nice job cleaning and doesn't leave that greasy feel you get with armor all.....just a clean looking dash that doesn't attract dust like armor all will.
